Essilor Stellest Lenses
When a child's prescription changes every year, it is easy to assume that stronger glasses are simply the next step. They are not the only ones. Essilor Stellest lenses correct myopia and slow its progression at the same time, which means your child sees clearly today and faces a lower risk of serious eye health problems in later life.

At Aristone Optical in Fulham, Stellest lenses are part of our myopia management programme and are available from £249.

What Are Essilor Stellest Lenses
Stellest lenses are myopia control spectacle lenses built around Essilor's H.A.L.T. technology, which stands for Highly Aspherical Lenslet Target. Each lens contains a constellation of 1,021 invisible lenslets arranged across 11 rings on the lens surface.

These lenslets create a volume of non-focused light in front of the retina, which sends a signal to slow eye elongation and myopia progression. The central zone corrects your child's prescription with the same sharp vision and visual acuity as any single vision spectacle lens. There is no compromise on clear vision, and no adjustment period worth speaking of.

Standard single vision spectacle lenses correct blurred vision but do nothing to address the eye growth that drives worsening myopia year on year. This is the clinical difference between normal glasses and Stellest. Both correct myopia, but only Stellest slows it.

The Evidence Behind Stellest
In a two-year prospective, randomised, double-masked clinical trial, myopic children who wore Stellest lenses full-time saw 67% slower myopia progression on average compared to those wearing single vision lenses. Axial elongation, the rate at which the eyeball grows longer, was slowed by 53% over the same period.

Five-year follow-up data showed children wearing Stellest had 1.75 dioptres less myopia than those in single vision lenses and a 30% lower risk of progressing to high myopia. The effect was most pronounced in younger children, where the rate of axial growth is fastest.

Every diopter matters, and these results represent a meaningful reduction in lifetime risk of serious eye health problems. Stellest lenses are also the first and only spectacle lens to receive FDA market authorisation for slowing myopia progression in children.
Who Stellest Lenses Are For
Stellest lenses are for myopic children aged six and above whose prescription is changing year on year. They are particularly well placed for younger children who are not yet ready for contact lenses, for those with fast-progressing myopia, and for families who want a spectacle-based myopia control treatment without moving to contact lenses.

The myopia control effect is consistent across a wide range of prescriptions, including higher levels of myopia, so the child's starting prescription does not limit whether Stellest is an option.

The younger a child develops short-sightedness, the faster it tends to progress and the stronger it becomes. Starting myopia control early gives the best long-term outcome.
